An Agri & Horti awareness program was successfully conducted at Komkar Village as part of ongoing community outreach efforts linked to the awareness of Siang Upper Multipurpose Project (SUMP). The initiative aimed to strengthen engagement with local communities while promoting sustainable agricultural and horticultural practices.
The program was organised in collaboration with AARRO Welfare Society, Yingkiong, with support from the local representatives. The session witnessed active participation from approximately 30 farmers, women groups, and other community stakeholders.
The keynote address on agriculture and horticulture was delivered by Dr. Rohit Shukla, Senior Scientist at the College of Horticulture and Forestry, Pasighat, who highlighted the best practices, crop management techniques, scientific approaches to enhance farm output.
The program also included the distribution of agriculture and horticulture tools, dissemination of informational materials, and interactive discussions to address community queries and concerns. As part of the initiative, FAQ booklets on SUMP were also circulated during the event to enhance awareness about key aspects related to the hydropower project.
The initiative focused on knowledge sharing, capacity building, and fostering dialogue with local residents to ensure informed participation in development initiatives in the region.
The Agri & Horti awareness program is part of a broader effort to build trust, enhance awareness, and create long-term socio-economic opportunities for communities in the Siang region, and is in line with Government of India’s National Rural Livelihoods Mission
