The All Nyishi Students’ Union (ANSU) has given a 10-day ultimatum to the Arunachal Pradesh government, demanding the immediate cancellation of the relocation of the Eklavya Model Residential School (EMRS) from Naharlagun to Resi-Yorbe, Riddi in Upper Subansiri district. The union has also called for the suspension of the Secretary of Social Justice, Empowerment, and Tribal Affairs (SJETA) over alleged irregularities in the decision-making process.
In a memorandum to Chief Minister Pema Khandu, ANSU strongly condemned the relocation, accusing the SJETA secretary of bypassing official procedures and misleading the public by falsely claiming that land was unavailable in Naharlagun. The union argued that the decision was an attempt to divert a sanctioned project from the Papum Pare region, depriving its intended beneficiaries.
Key demands by ANSU:
Immediate Cancellation of EMRS Relocation: ANSU has urged the government to halt the transfer and ensure that the school is established within Papum Pare district as per the original plan.
Suspension of SJETA Secretary & Inquiry: The union has demanded the immediate suspension of the official responsible and the formation of a Fact-Finding Committee to investigate the circumstances behind the relocation decision.
ANSU has warned that if the government fails to act within the given 10-day deadline, it will initiate statewide protests to safeguard the developmental rights of the Papum Pare and Capital Complex region.
