Anurag Kashyap said he was emotionally drained at daughter Aaliya’s wedding.
Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap’s daughter Aaliya got married in December. The wedding celebrations were too emotional for him, and in a recent interview, the director said that he was ready to leave the ceremony because he was too sad.
Anurag also shared that he cried for 10 days after Aaliya’s wedding and compared the emotions he felt to what he felt at the time of Aaliya’s birth. Aaliya is the only child of Anurag’s first wife, film editor Aarti Bajaj.
In a conversation with The Hollywood Reporter India, he said, “I felt the same way when my daughter was born. I don’t know why I cried so much, but I cried. The same happened at her wedding. I think I cried continuously for 10 days.
I don’t know why it happened and that too in front of strangers.” Anurag said that he was talking to someone and as soon as his daughter was mentioned, he “started crying.”
After being in an emotional state for 10 days, Anurag went through a different experience. “Suddenly, I stopped drinking, I stopped crying, everything stopped. I think it was a big catharsis for me, which lasted for 10 days,” he said.
He added that on the day of the wedding, after the rituals were over, he wanted to leave, but Vikramaditya Motwane, who was present during the interview, stopped him.
“At my daughter’s wedding, after the varmala and havan were done, I couldn’t handle it. I was so overwhelmed and emotional that I wanted to leave the wedding even before the reception started. And I was going out, but he stopped me. He took me out, we went for a long walk and then came back,” he said.
In an earlier interaction with Film Companion, Anurag said that he was not available when his daughter was growing up. “My daughter has grown up. She has forgiven me.
She would come and talk to me. ‘Why did you always work so much?’ And I would try to explain to her that I made low-budget films. I had to work twice as hard. Or three times as hard. And she would understand, but still, you know, one could take out time,” he said.
