APAMB and RC Roy finalize major ginger export agreement

The Arunachal Pradesh Agriculture Marketing Board (APAMB) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with RC Roy Associates, a prominent ginger exporter. The deal, valued at ₹35 crore, involves the sale of 5,000 metric tonnes of ginger.

The MoU was finalized on Thursday in the presence of State Agriculture Minister Gabriel D Wangsu. Under the agreement, RC Roy Associates will procure the ginger at ₹20 per kilogram, with an advance payment of up to 30% of the total value being made to farmers, self-help groups (SHGs), and farmer producer organizations (FPOs) through APAMB.

APAMB Chief Executive Officer Okit Palling highlighted that the final rate payable to farmers will be adjusted based on the prevailing rate at the time of procurement. Last year’s rate suggests that farmers could receive around ₹30 crore, marking one of the largest single-product agreements in the state’s agricultural marketing history.

Minister Wangsu emphasized promoting the local ginger varieties, known for their superior taste and aroma, and advised against encouraging non-native varieties. State Agriculture Production Commissioner Vivek Pandey noted the substantial impact of this MoU and stressed the importance of ensuring fair prices for farmers and a steady supply for the exporter.
