Arunachal CM Pema Khandu announces ₹43 crore projects, vows WW2 remnants revamp in Nampong

Chief Minister Pema Khandu of Arunachal Pradesh announced an ambitious initiative to preserve historical landmarks and enhance infrastructure in Nampong, unveiling ₹43 crore worth of development projects for the constituency. The announcement was made during the Pangsau Pass International Festival (PPIF), a celebration of culture, history, and tourism that resumed after a four-year hiatus. Addressing the gathering, CM Khandu emphasized the historical significance of Nampong, particularly its role during World War II along the Stilwell Road. “Nampong is a treasure trove of history, and we are committed to restoring its World War II remnants to attract global tourists,” he stated. Experts will soon be engaged to revitalize these sites, turning Nampong into a key heritage destination.

The projects unveiled include the Sadbhavna Hall in Nampong, an upgraded Setong Sena Outdoor Stadium in Jairampur, a divisional office for Urban Development and Housing, a tourist lodge, and improved township roads. Foundation stones were also laid for crucial infrastructure, such as the Jairampur Supermarket, Nampong to Tikhak Khamlang PMGSY Road, and the Rima to Longchong road improvement. CM Khandu highlighted transformative connectivity projects, including the double-lane National Highway connecting Jairampur, Nampong, and Pangsau Pass, and the ambitious 2,500 km Frontier Highway linking Nafra to Vijaynagar. These projects aim to boost tourism and foster economic self-reliance in the Tirap, Changlang, and Longding (TCL) region.

Inaugurating the three-day PPIF, Khandu described it as a celebration of Arunachal’s rich heritage. The festival features traditional sports, folk performances, and expeditions to historic sites, providing a platform for artisans and entrepreneurs. The Chief Minister also announced plans for decentralized governance, with Cabinet meetings to be held across districts to address local issues more effectively. “We aim to bring governance closer to the people,” he said.
