Arunachal CM promotes fish farming near China border with seed distribution in Shi Yomi

Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu on Sunday distributed fish seeds to local farmers in Shi Yomi district as part of a state initiative to boost fisheries and promote self-employment in remote border areas. The distribution took place at the Trout Fish Farm in Dechenthang village, about 30 km from the India-China border and near Mechuka town. The event was organized by the Department of Fisheries and attended by local MLA and Minister Pasang Dorjee Sona.

CM Khandu encouraged local youth to take up fish farming seriously and treat it as a viable profession. “Fish farming can transform rural lives. Our aim is to make our border districts self-sufficient and open new livelihood avenues,” he said. The Trout Fish Farm at Dechenthang, run by Lakra Dorjee Onge, has become a model of rural entrepreneurship. Onge said the Chief Minister’s visit was inspiring and thanked the government for continued support. “We are now supplying trout to Mechuka’s hotels and homestays. With more help, we can expand further,” he said.

IPS officer Rohit Rajbir Singh, visiting Mechuka, also praised the region’s beauty and urged tourists to explore the valley, calling it “a paradise waiting to be discovered.”
