Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu has condemned the alleged racial abuse of three women from the state living in South Delhi. Calling the incident “shameful” and “absolutely unacceptable,” the Chief Minister said such behaviour has no place in a civilised society and assured that strict action will be taken against those responsible. The women later alleged that they were subjected to racial remarks, mental harassment and humiliation. However, no physical injuries were reported in the incident.
Taking serious note of the matter, Chief Minister Khandu said he personally spoke to the Commissioner of Delhi Police and asked for immediate and firm action. In a post on social media platform X, he said the safety, dignity and justice of the women were the government’s top priority. “We stand firmly with our three sisters,” he stated, adding that the accused would be dealt with strictly as per the law.Delhi Police confirmed that a case has been registered at Malviya Nagar Police Station against two local residents. An FIR has been lodged under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). These include Section 79, which deals with words or gestures intended to insult the modesty of a woman; Section 351(2) related to criminal intimidation; and Section 196, which concerns promoting enmity between different groups on grounds such as religion, race or place of birth. Provisions related to acts done with common intention have also been added.
