Arunachal Governor applauds youth and sportsmanship at SAFF U-19 Football finale

Arunachal Pradesh Governor Lt General (Retd) K.T. Parnaik hailed the growing sporting spirit of the state as the South Asian Football Federation (SAFF) Under-19 Championship concluded with a grand finale at the Golden Jubilee Outdoor Stadium in Itanagar on Sunday. Addressing a packed stadium of football fans, young athletes, and dignitaries, Governor Parnaik praised the players and organizers for making the tournament a remarkable success. He described the event as a proud moment for Arunachal Pradesh, calling it an inspiration for youth across the Northeast to pursue sports, especially football, at the global level.

“This championship has not only highlighted the talent and determination of our youth but also showcased Arunachal Pradesh as a rising hub of sports,” the Governor said. “We are proud to host such an international event that promotes discipline, unity, and sportsmanship.” The SAFF U-19 tournament featured teams from India, Bhutan, Bangladesh, Nepal, Maldives, and Sri Lanka. Governor Parnaik emphasized that the presence of these nations symbolized regional friendship and cooperation. He urged young players and coaches to act as ambassadors of peace and goodwill, representing both India and Arunachal on the international stage.

Kipa Ajay, Treasurer of the All India Football Federation (AIFF) and Secretary of the Arunachal Pradesh Football Association, expressed pride in Arunachal hosting the SAFF U-19 Championship for the first time in India. He credited Chief Minister Pema Khandu for his unwavering support in facilitating the event and ensuring its smooth execution. SAFF General Secretary Purushottam Kattel lauded the energetic participation of the local community and praised the coordination between the state government, AIFF, and the Arunachal Pradesh Football Association. “The passion and excitement shown by the people of Arunachal have created an unforgettable atmosphere,” he said.
