Arunachal Pradesh Governor K.T. Parnaik has called for a robust inclusive policy for children with special needs, emphasizing intensive sensitisation and frontline worker training to reduce stigma. Speaking at the inauguration of a two-day event marking ‘Autism Month’ in Itanagar on Monday, Parnaik underlined the necessity for mandatory appointment of special educators, particularly in junior classes, to fully implement inclusive education across all schools. He also proposed the establishment of government-run model special schools.
During the event, Governor Parnaik and Social Justice Minister Kento Jini distributed teaching and learning kits to children with special needs and interacted with parents, medical specialists, and educators. Assuring parents of the government’s commitment, the Governor announced that Raj Bhavan will actively involve children with special needs in all its programmes.
Highlighting the need for research on neurodiversity, Parnaik, who is also the chancellor of the state’s universities, proposed the introduction of a PhD programme on autism studies. Minister Jini reiterated the government’s commitment to effectively implementing all central and state welfare schemes for children with special needs.
