Arunachal Local Body Polls: BJP Sweeps Elections with Massive Win

The elections for the Zilla Parishads and Gramme Panchayats in Arunachal Pradesh were held on December 15, and the ruling BJP won a majority of seats.Additionally, the party won 14 of the 20 wards in the Itanagar Municipal Corporation (IMC) elections, giving them a resounding victory.

In the Pasighat Municipal Council (PMC), however, the regional People’s Party of Arunachal (PPA) won five of the eight seats, followed by the BJP with two and an Independent with one. The BJP won 170 of the 245 Zilla Parishad seats, including 59 that were not contested, according to the State Election Commission’s final findings, demonstrating its unquestionable dominance at the district-level local councils. With 28 seats, the PPA became the second-largest party, while the Congress won seven. Pema Khandu, the chief minister of Arunachal Pradesh, has thanked the state’s citizens for supporting the BJP in the panchayat elections.

“My sincere gratitude to all of our devoted party karyakartas for their unwavering dedication and hard work, which enabled this historic triumph. “We will continue to work together with renewed resolve for a stronger, prosperous, and self-reliant Arunachal Pradesh under the leadership of the Party and the inspiring guidance of the Prime Minister,” Khandu wrote on social media.
