Arunachal Pradesh is scheduled to hold commemoration ceremonies at the Jaswant Garh War Memorial on November 17 and the Nyukmadung War Memorial on November 18, 2024, in honor of the unwavering spirit and sacrifice of Indian soldiers. These events will honor the valiant soldiers and unwavering locals whose fortitude and solidarity throughout the 1962 Indo-China War created a legacy that still serves as an inspiration today. The activities will highlight the heroic accounts of two pivotal battle encounters.
The Battle of Nuranang (17 November 1962): The valor of the 4 Garhwal Rifles was on display during this intense battle, especially that of Rifleman Jaswant Singh Rawat (Mahavir Chakra, Posthumous), who stopped the opposing forces for 72 hours on his own. In addition to him, Rifleman Gopal Singh Gusain and Lance Naik Trilok Singh Negi, who were both posthumously awarded the Vir Chakra, shown unmatched bravery and made their names in military history.
The Battle of Nyukmadung (18 November 1962): This conflict, which was marked by fierce combat and uncompromising opposition, was noteworthy for the Indian Army’s strong leadership and the local communities’ unflinching support. The intense fighting demonstrated the solidarity and determination of a country protecting its independence.
