Arunachal Rolls Out Rs 6,519 cr Plan To Transform Power Sector

The Arunachal Pradesh government has launched a ₹6,519-crore initiative to revamp its power sector, aiming to cut losses, modernise infrastructure, and ensure a reliable electricity supply without straining state finances.

Chief Minister Pema Khandu announced the plan on Monday, stating that the government is committed to creating a resilient and efficient power system. “Our focus is low losses, high reliability, and no fiscal burden,” he said in a post on X.

A major portion—₹788 crore—will target reducing aggregate technical and commercial losses, a key issue in remote regions. The plan includes the rollout of smart meters and the development of modern power grids to improve efficiency, billing accuracy, and real-time monitoring.

These upgrades are designed to minimise wastage, streamline usage, and offer consumers greater control over electricity consumption. To ensure affordability, the government will provide gap funding to bridge the shortfall between investment and revenue recovery.

Calling it a “transformative step,” Khandu said the move aligns with Arunachal’s development goals, aiming to meet current demands and support future growth, especially in rural and industrial sectors.
