Arunachal’s first state-level volleyball championship inaugurated in Itanagar

The first-ever state-level Volleyball Championship 2024 in Arunachal Pradesh was inaugurated by Koloriang MLA and PHED Minister’s Advisor, Pani Taram, at the Sports Resort in Itanagar. As the chief guest, Taram applauded the Arunachal Pradesh Volleyball Association (APVA) for reviving the state-level event after more than a decade. “I’m hopeful that next year, we will see even more participation from all districts. Our state has immense sports potential, and I urge our youth to excel and bring pride to their families and communities,” he stated, emphasizing the importance of sports as a means to steer youth away from negative influences, particularly drug abuse.

Taram also highlighted the benefits of job reservations of 5-10% in various sectors for athletes, encouraging greater participation in sports. He assured support for a memorandum submitted for the construction of an indoor volleyball stadium in the capital complex and Papum Pare district. Guest of honour, former minister and Arunachal Olympic Association President, Taba Tedir, echoed these sentiments, offering full backing to the APVA at both state and central levels. He also expressed optimism that the national-level volleyball championship, delayed earlier, would take place soon.

APVA President Nera Techi noted the challenges in organizing the championship after a 12-year hiatus but remained hopeful for broader participation in the future. Ten teams from across the state are competing in the tournament, which will conclude on October 25.
