The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on November 19 announced the names of four candidates who will contest the upcoming panchayat elections from the Kalaktang constituency in Arunachal Pradesh. The announcement marks the party’s early move to strengthen its presence at the grassroots level in West Kameng district. The declaration was made during an official ceremony attended by BJP West Kameng District President Nawang Lopsang, Zila Prabhari Gautam Ringu, and the Mandal Presidents of Rupa and Kalaktang. Party leaders said the selection of candidates was done keeping in mind their experience, local connect and commitment to public service.
As part of the announcement, the BJP named Karma Dorjee Thongdok as its candidate for the ZP-04 Rupa seat. Tashi Wangchu Khochy will contest from ZP-03 Nargum East in Kalaktang, while Dorjee Tsering Namsa has been selected for ZP-11 Nargum West. For the ZP-12 Shergaon position, the party has fielded Chong Khandu Thungon.
Kalaktang MLA Tsetem Chombay congratulated all four candidates, calling panchayat bodies the “foundation of democratic participation and local development.” He expressed confidence that the nominees would bring focused leadership and work towards improving essential services, infrastructure and welfare initiatives in the area.
