The Tawang International Marathon was marked off by Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu and Gajraj Corps GOC Lt Gen Gambhir Singh. The marathon, dubbed the “Queen of High-Altitude Runs,” drew 4,500 runners from all around India and the world. Tawang Marathon is a monument to the perseverance of its contestants. The event was organized by the Indian Army and the Arunachal Pradesh Government. This year’s theme, ‘Peace & Unity,’ connects strongly with the marathon’s objective.
Following the success of the inaugural marathon in 2023, Chief Minister Khandu designated the Tawang Marathon an annual international event on July 4 this year. He announced a Rs 2 crore grant-in-aid to help over 5,000 runners compete in a variety of categories, including full and half marathons, 10-kilometer and five-kilometre runs. The Tawang Marathon continues to attract an increasing number of participants. The official website, which started on July 10, has already registered over 4,500 runners, demonstrating the event’s popularity and significance in the high-altitude town of Tawang.
