Dibang Valley Hydropower Development must benefit locals, says Arunachal CM

Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu examined the status of major hydropower projects in Dibang Valley district, signifying the state government’s renewed commitment on advancing clean energy development while assuring local welfare, infrastructure expansion and national energy security. The study included important ongoing projects including the 680 MW Attunli Hydroelectric Project and the 3,097 MW Etalin Hydroelectric Project, as well as ongoing projects like Mihumdon (400 MW), Amulin (420 MW), and Emini (500 MW). Dibang Valley is positioned as a key hub in Arunachal Pradesh’s hydropower roadmap thanks to the projects’ combined anticipated generation capacity of 5,097 MW.

The Chief Minister claims that talks with power developers centered on project schedules, legal and environmental clearances, and steps to guarantee that development projects directly benefit nearby people. Strengthening supporting infrastructure and coordinating project implementation with India’s more general energy security objectives were also prioritized. In a statement released after the review meeting, Khandu stated that “development must proceed in a manner that balances timely execution with the interests of local communities, while contributing to the nation’s long-term energy needs.”
