The first edition of the Sunrise Festival at Dong Valley in Anjaw district of Arunachal Pradesh got underway on Monday.
The venue of the festival, which marks the beginning of the new year from the land where the day dawns first in the country, has been beautifully decorated.
The festival will continue till January 2, celebrating the culture, natural heritage and beauty of dong valley in the frontier district.
Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu and Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein along with a host of dignitaries graced the inaugural day of the festival.
“The Sunrise Festival began with sacred Meyor rituals, invoking the spirits of the forest and mountains and offering prayers to the deities,” Chief Minister Khandu later stated on social media.
Khandu also lauded the wonderful display of the latest gadgets, weaponry and equipment of the Indian Army at the event, showcasing strength, technology, and preparedness.
Meanwhile, homestays and camp sites are buzzing with tourists who have started arriving in Walong for the festival.
The Dong Valley, located in India’s remote Anjaw district, Arunachal Pradesh, is famous as the spot where India sees its first sunrise, situated near the tri-junction of India, China, and Myanmar.
Known for stunning mountain views and pine forests, it’s home to the Meyor tribe, accessible by trekking from Walong, and offers an incredible experience for nature lovers to witness the dawn break over the Himalayas.
