Fluorescent collars distributed for Mithuns in Arunachal to prevent highway accidents

In a proactive effort to prevent road accidents involving Mithuns, officials in Arunachal Pradesh distributed 200 fluorescent collars to Mithun owners in Pangin circle of Siang district on Friday. The initiative aims to enhance visibility at night and reduce collisions on highways. The distribution was led by Niyang Pertin, CO Pangin, and Er. Okep Dai, EE PWD (Highway), in the presence of Gamtum Padu, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Pangin Sub-Division, Gaon Burahs, and Mithun owners.

The event, held at Pangin Community Hall, marked a significant step toward road safety and the protection of Mithuns, a culturally revered bovine species in Arunachal Pradesh and neighboring states. Recognizing the alarming number of accidents due to low visibility, Pertin and Dai personally funded and procured the collars to safeguard both human lives and Mithuns. Mithuns, with their dark coats, often blend into the night, making them difficult for drivers to spot, particularly during dense winter fog.

“Ensuring highway safety is a shared responsibility. This initiative is just the beginning, and we will continue working on innovative ideas to prevent accidents,” said ADC Pangin Gamtum Padu. Officer-in-Charge, Pangin Police Station, also distributed informational pamphlets and posters promoting road safety and responsible driving.
