A one-day free legal awareness camp was held at Bilat Block in Arunachal Pradesh’s East Siang district, drawing over 70 participants, including Gaon Burah/Buris (GBs), legal experts, and students. The camp, organized on February 24 by the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), East Siang, in collaboration with the Legal Aid Cell, Faculty of Law and Forensic Sciences, Apex Professional University, aimed to enhance legal literacy and strengthen the understanding of justice administration among local leaders.The program commenced at 10:30 AM with a keynote address by GB Secretary Tayam Dupak, followed by the felicitation of resource persons by the GBs of Bilat Block. The technical session featured legal experts discussing key legislative frameworks governing the state.
Advocate Tonning Pertin delivered an insightful lecture on “The Assam Frontier (Administration of Justice) Regulation, 1945,” emphasizing the pivotal role of village authorities in upholding justice. Meanwhile, Advocate Taber Tamuk elaborated on “The Arunachal Pradesh Civil Court Act of 2021 and its Amendments in 2022 and 2023,” highlighting the structure and function of inter-village customary courts. The interactive session saw enthusiastic participation, with attendees raising critical legal queries, including the direct filing of cases in civil courts versus customary courts and the necessity of issuing same-day verdicts in legal disputes. The session provided a platform for constructive discussions and clarification of legal doubts.
The camp concluded with a vote of thanks by Advocate Sunny Tayeng, followed by a group photo session. Organizers emphasized that such initiatives play a crucial role in empowering local communities with legal knowledge, ensuring better access to justice and legal remedies.
