In a tribute to the bravery and sacrifice of Indian soldiers during the historic 1962 Battle of Walong, the Indian Army hosted a half marathon on Sunday to commemorate the 62nd Walong Day. The event drew an impressive crowd of 558 participants, including members of the Indian Armed Forces, Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), Border Roads Organization (BRO), and civilians from Arunachal Pradesh and Assam.
The marathon was officially flagged off by Subedar Narinder Singh Rawat, an Olympian and Commonwealth Marathon runner, who led the attendees in paying homage to the brave hearts of Walong. Runners of all ages, including women and children, embraced the challenge, navigating the breathtaking yet challenging terrain of the Lohit Valley. The course tested the physical endurance of participants, featuring steep ascents and descents.
The event offered three distance categories—21 km, 10 km, and 5 km—catering to runners of various skill levels. Winners in each category received medals and cash prizes, while all participants were presented with commemorative T-shirts in recognition of their dedication and effort.
