High-grade hydroponic weed found at Pune Airport is worth Rs. 6.12 crore

High-grade hydroponic marijuana worth ₹6.12 crore was found on the illegal market, and authorities from Pune Customs’ Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) apprehended a guy at Pune International Airport on Tuesday in a significant drug smuggling seizure. According to authorities, Atul Sushil Hiwale was stopped during a standard screening because of his suspicious behavior. After a careful examination of his check-in trolley bag, 6,119 grams of hydroponic cannabis—a powerful and pricey variety of marijuana grown without the use of soil—were found.

This is the third time in a month that drugs have been found on travelers arriving in India from Bangkok, suggesting a possible trend or smuggling network. Authorities are looking into whether Hiwale operated alone or as a member of a bigger organization, as well as any potential foreign connections. Under the 1985 Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, a case has been filed. A magistrate’s order has placed Hiwale in judicial detention, and an inquiry is still underway. Amid worries about the increasing trend of international drug trafficking, authorities have increased their security at Indian airports, particularly for aircraft arriving from Southeast Asia.
