As the Ram Mandir gets ready for the Dhwajarohan ceremony—a customary flag-hoisting event that will formally mark the completion of the temple’s construction—Ayodhya is about to see a significant spiritual milestone. The event is set to take place in the afternoon on the auspicious Abhijeet Muhurat, a period of great religious devotion. The ritual will be presided over by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who will raise a specially made saffron flag atop the 161-foot shikhara of the temple. The 22 by 11-foot flag will be affixed to a 42-foot pole that is positioned atop the main spire.
It was created during a 25-day period in Ahmedabad and includes hand-embroidered golden emblems that are profoundly symbolic of Lord Ram’s legacy, such as the sun, the holy Om, and Kovidar tree motifs. After top Army authorities were consulted, a rotating, weather-resistant hoisting system and parachute-grade cloth were included in the flag’s design. Nearly 100 tonnes of flowers have been used to beautify Ayodhya, turning the temple town into a magnificent festive scene as 6,000–8,000 guests arrive for the ritual. Among this year’s attendees are communities symbolically linked to characters from the Ramayana, reflecting a more inclusive representation.
Nripendra Mishra, chairman of the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Temple Construction Committee, noted that several previously excluded groups have been invited. The Dhwajarohan marks a significant milestone following the Pran Pratishtha of Ram Lalla in January 2024, indicating that the temple complex is now ready for formal worship. This event holds additional significance as it coincides with Vivah Panchami, commemorating the wedding of Lord Ram and Sita. Following the flag-hoisting, a grand aarti will initiate celebrations expected to last throughout the day.
