The Indian Army’s Gajraj Corps commemorated Nuranang Day 2024 on November 17, paying tribute to the heroic sacrifices of the 4 Garhwal Rifles during the Battle of Nuranang in the 1962 Sino-Indian War.
A solemn wreath-laying ceremony at the Jaswant Garh War Memorial marked the occasion, attended by civil officials, ex-servicemen, Rifleman Jaswant Singh Rawat’s family, students, and tourists. Rifleman Jaswant Singh Rawat, posthumously awarded the Maha Vir Chakra, and his comrades were remembered for their extraordinary courage during the historic battle.
Adding to the tributes, the newly established Smriti Sthal, showcasing artefacts and displays honouring national heroes, was inaugurated. The event also featured cultural performances, including traditional dances by local school students and vibrant Bhangra and Gatka displays by the Sela Brigade, symbolizing unity in diversity. In the lead-up to Nuranang Day, the Sela Brigade organized community outreach activities, including:
A meeting with ex-servicemen and local leaders to address their concerns.
Painting and lecture competitions in schools to inspire patriotism among youth.
A free medical camp offering healthcare services to over 76 civilians.
