On October 9 and 10, at the Village Council Hall in Phanjang, Peren, a two-day orientation training program for local farmers was held with the goal of improving agricultural output and sustainability. The central integrated pest control center in Dimapur, which is part of the Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare of the Indian government, organized the training.
The course, “Integrated Pest management in Paddy for Sustainable Agriculture through AESA approach,” included a number of interactive sessions that covered a wide range of subjects, such as the application of NPSS (mobile app) technology in agriculture, sustainable farming practices, integrated pest management in rice, safe pesticide use, seed treatment, crop rotation, and agro ecosystem analysis (AESA). As a resource, Dr. Sabbithi Pavan, an assistant professor from SAS at Nagaland University in Medziphema, spoke on common insect pests of rice, including identification, life cycles, and treatment.
Kiachang APPO-E conducted a practical demonstration on the installation of light traps, pheromone traps, and fruit fly traps in the field, while Imlirenla Longkumer APPO-WS from CIPMC Dimapur discussed Agro Ecosystem Analysis (AESA) and its effectiveness and conducted a practical demonstration on seed treatment and the National Pest Surveillance System (Mobile App for Farmers). The safe use of biological control and bio-pesticides in agriculture, as well as the risks to human health and the environment from the careless use of chemical pesticides, were all covered by Dr. Sable MG, APPO-E. More than forty farmers attended the course.
