Itanagar Police bust drug network, arrest peddling couple with heroin

In a decisive action against drug trafficking, the Itanagar Police have arrested a couple involved in habitual drug peddling and seized 13.20 grams of heroin from their possession. The operation, conducted on February 4, was based on intelligence inputs received a day earlier. A police team led by Inspector Khiksi Yangfo, Officer-in-Charge of Itanagar Police Station, along with Inspector Takhe Tasso and SI Kentar Tacha, executed the raid under the supervision of SDPO Itanagar, Kengo Dirchi. The operation resulted in the recovery of 10 plastic vials containing suspected heroin.

The arrested individuals have been identified as:

Tadar Naham (24): A resident of Langloth village, Kurung Kumey district, currently residing in A-Sector, Itanagar.

Kenna Perme (24): A resident of Mebo village, East Siang district.

During interrogation, the duo admitted to drug consumption for the past three years and confessed to procuring heroin from Assam. Tadar Naham further revealed that he had been selling the contraband in the Itanagar Capital Region (ICR) for financial gain.

A case has been registered under Sections 21(a) and 27 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Both accused have been remanded to 14 days of judicial custody. Lauding the swift police action, Itanagar SP Rohit Rajbir Singh (IPS) commended the team for their diligence and assured suitable rewards for their efforts in curbing drug trafficking. The Itanagar Capital Police reiterated their commitment to “DAWN,” an initiative aimed at eradicating drug abuse and trafficking. Authorities urged citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to create a safer and drug-free society.
