As Arunachal Pradesh prepares to welcome the New Year at Dong village, Chief Minister Pema Khandu inaugurated the Sunrise Festival, highlighting its potential to become a major tourism attraction for the Northeast. The festival aims to foster local entrepreneurship, promote sustainable tourism, and support small businesses, adhering to the principle of “leave no trash, leave no trace.” Dong village, home to the indigenous Meyor tribe, is of significant cultural and geographical importance. The festival began with sacred rituals reflecting the community’s traditions and will run until January 2, 2026. Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein emphasized the historical significance of the location, known for witnessing India’s first sunrise.
