In an effort to curb illicit peddling, the village-level task force of Koyu village in Lower Siang district set up a checkpoint at the village’s entrance. The decision was reached in the face of drug peddling, hunting, fishing, timber operations, and Indian-made foreign liquor (IMFL), the task force members said on November 5. It should be noted that Kenter Kobo, the youth president of the Koyu Youth Welfare Society and a member of the gang, established the village-level task force.
Meanwhile, he said, the checkpoint will help manage illegal hunting, fishing, and wood operations, as well as illegal drug trafficking, illegal IMFL sales, and other anti-social element movements in and around Koyu village. Kenter went on to say that the village task force has decided to stop illegal activity and notify the relevant authorities so that prompt action can be taken. In addition, the task force has urged all residents of nearby villages in Lower Siang, East Siang, and other districts to abstain from criminal activity.
