Kurung Kumey hosts historic tourism promotion programme, attracts over 150 visitors

In a significant step towards promoting tourism in Arunachal Pradesh, the Kurung Kumey Tourism Promoter, under the leadership of renowned journalist Shri Nangram Kayang, successfully organized a tourism promotion programme from February 28 to March 1, 2024. The event, held with the support of the district administration and Kurung Kumey District Police, marked a major milestone in the district’s tourism sector. For the first time, Kurung Kumey welcomed over 150 tourists, offering them an immersive experience of the region’s breathtaking landscapes, rich cultural heritage, and vibrant tribal traditions. The initiative was strongly backed by several dignitaries, including Honourable MLA Shri Pani Taram, MLA Er. Tai Nikio, ZPC Shri Dare Mada, and other prominent officials and community leaders.

Speaking about the event’s success, Shri Nangram Kayang expressed his gratitude to the leaders and residents of Kurung Kumey, stating, “I feel blessed that our senior leaders, social workers, and the people of Kurung Kumey came forward with great enthusiasm to showcase the district’s unparalleled beauty and cultural heritage.” Kurung Kumey, known for its untouched natural beauty and traditional tribal culture, has remained relatively unexplored by mainstream tourism. This promotional event aimed to highlight the district’s tourism potential, drawing attention to its lush green valleys, picturesque rivers, and unique cultural practices.

One of the major attractions of the programme was the cultural exchange between visitors and local tribes. Tourists had the opportunity to engage with the indigenous communities, witness traditional dance performances, and experience the local cuisine. The event also featured guided tours, interactive sessions, and presentations on the history and folklore of the region. The success of this tourism promotion programme signals a new era for Kurung Kumey, which has the potential to emerge as a prime eco-tourism and cultural tourism destination in Arunachal Pradesh. The district’s leaders are hopeful that this initiative will encourage further investment in tourism infrastructure and open new avenues for sustainable development.
