Medanta unveils tech-driven Rs 500-crore Guwahati hospital, set to transform Northeast healthcare innovation

Medanta has announced a major leap in healthcare innovation in the Northeast with the commencement of its cutting-edge 400+ bed super-speciality hospital in Guwahati. The Bhoomi Poojan ceremony on October 31, attended by Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, Medanta Chairman & Managing Director Dr. Naresh Trehan, and Group CEO Pankaj Sahni, marks the beginning of a project designed to deliver advanced digital-enabled healthcare close to home for millions across the region.

The ₹500-crore facility, located at Sarusajai Industrial Estate, will bring precision technologies including robotic surgery, AI-powered diagnostics, remote patient monitoring, tele-ICU services, and digital-integrated patient pathways. With focus areas spanning cardiac sciences, neurosciences, oncology, organ transplant, trauma care, and preventive health, Medanta aims to transform the medical ecosystem while creating 5,000–7,000 jobs and training opportunities.

Dr. Trehan highlighted the mission to make world-class tech-enabled healthcare accessible across India, while Sahni termed Guwahati the future medical innovation hub for the Northeast. Medical practitioners and tech-focused entrepreneurs view Medanta’s expansion as a key step in modernising regional healthcare. Local sentiment suggests that the upcoming digital consultation network, innovation-driven diagnostics, and tele-medicine partnerships could reduce long-distance medical travel and boost healthcare startups. Stakeholders also expect improved access to specialist services and greater adoption of medical technology solutions in both urban and remote hill areas.
