Mob kills accused in child abuse case; Arunachal govt calls for lawful justice and protection

Arunachal Pradesh’s minister of women and child development, Dasanglu Pul, has voiced serious concerns about the recent child abuse case that was publicized in Roing, in the Lower Dibang Valley district of the state, and reiterated the commitment of the state government to enforcing the law and safeguarding children. Pul promised the victims and their families full government support during a meeting with important child welfare stakeholders at Roing on Saturday, according to an official statement. Stakeholders include members of the district’s Child Development Project Officer (CDPO), the Child Welfare Committee (CWC), and the District Child Protection Unit (DCPU). “My condolences and thoughts are with the victims and their families. To guarantee justice and healing, we stand together”. The minister emphasized the need for concerted action in these situations, saying that no child should ever feel unsafe. An angry mob killed the migrant youth from neighboring Assam on July 11th after he had physically abused at least eight young girls in a private school in Roing.

A 19-year-old male from Bongaigaon, Assam named Riaz-Ul Kurim was taken into custody by police on Friday after it was revealed that he had allegedly sexually assaulted many girls at a school. The young man was apprehended and beaten by the girls’ parents, who complained to the school administration, before the police came to his aid and placed him under arrest. But a crowd stormed into the police station, pulled the young man outside, and assaulted him. They pursued him and beat him once more after he was saved and brought to the hospital, which finally caused his death.

According to investigators, the young person used to work at a construction site close to the school. The minister also praised the recent approval by the state cabinet to put the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act’s “Support Person” clause into effect. The program’s objective is to support child victims during police and judicial proceedings by offering them procedural and emotional support.
