In a landmark step for the Northeast’s industrial growth, Union Minister for Coal and Mines G. Kishan Reddy and Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu jointly inaugurated the Namchik–Namphuk Coal Mine in Changlang district on Sunday. The project marks the launch of the region’s first-ever legal private commercial coal mining operation, signaling a new chapter in Arunachal Pradesh’s economic and industrial development.
Developed by the Mahalaxmi Group, the mine is projected to generate approximately ₹4,500 crore in revenue for the state government, a significant boost to the state’s financial and industrial profile. The project is expected to create large-scale employment opportunities, spur infrastructure growth, and promote skill development among the local population.
Speaking ahead of the inauguration, Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy described the project as a “new era of trust, transparency, and transformation” for the mining sector in the Northeast. He emphasized that the initiative represents not only economic progress but also sustainable and scientific mining practices aimed at harnessing the region’s natural resources responsibly.
Chief Minister Pema Khandu hailed the project as a milestone in industrial development for Arunachal Pradesh. “This initiative will strengthen our revenue base, create employment opportunities, and contribute to long-term industrial expansion. Arunachal Pradesh is proud to play its role in India’s growth story,” he said.
Naveen Singhal, Chairman of the Mahalaxmi Group, highlighted the company’s commitment to environmentally responsible mining. Officials also noted that the project aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of an Atmanirbhar Bharat, integrating the Northeast into India’s broader energy and infrastructure framework.
