Namsai MLA encourages farmers to embrace oil palm and turmeric cultivation

Chau Zingnu Namchoom, a Namsai politician, encouraged farmers to benefit from the National Mission on Edible Oils–Oil Palm (NMEO-OP), stating that satellite mapping has determined that oil palm and turmeric are the best crops for the district’s fertile soil. Speaking during a massive oil palm plantation event held at the Wood Town Resort in Chowkham, Namsai district, Namchoom stated that India is still largely reliant on imports of edible oil and emphasized the need for Namsai farmers to start growing oil palm in order to become self-sufficient.

He promised to bring up the matter with the appropriate authority for the prompt disbursement of agricultural incentives. Farmers, authorities, and dignitaries attended the event, which was organized by the district agriculture department in partnership with Patanjali Foods Ltd. Nang Koliani Namchoom, the deputy commissioner in charge of Namsai, also discussed the goals of NMEO-OP and gave farmers the assurance that their complaints would be immediately resolved.

Even while per capita consumption is still below the national average, Arunachal Pradesh alone needs 18,000 metric tonnes of edible oil yearly, according to Tapas Kumar Tripathi, deputy general manager of Patanjali Foods Ltd. According to him, oil palm provides farmers with a lucrative alternative due to its high output and efficiency.
