A newly constructed cement-concrete road linking the Namtok Police Station check gate with Longpha and Kuthung has officially been opened to the public, marking a long-awaited moment for residents of Arunachal Pradesh’s Changlang district. The stretch, which had been a persistent demand of villagers, is expected to dramatically ease movement across the hilly terrain.
For years, the people of Namtok Circle depended on uneven and weather-worn tracks that often turned treacherous during the monsoon season. The new road now offers a safer and more reliable route, improving everyday travel for villagers and strengthening links between the settlements and the circle headquarters. Local officials said the project would also enhance access to health care, education, and supply services, providing much-needed relief to communities that have long faced logistical challenges.
The inauguration ceremony was marked by a tribute to tribal icon Birsa Munda on his 150th birth anniversary, with the unveiling of a statue in his honour. Leaders and community members recalled Munda’s enduring legacy, describing him as a symbol of resistance, identity, and pride for indigenous communities across the region. The installation, they said, would serve as a reminder of the rich cultural heritage that continues to shape the social fabric of Changlang.
The event also featured vibrant cultural performances by Adivasi groups, adding colour and energy to the celebrations. Young people from the area actively participated in the launch of the MLA Foosball Tournament 2025, which was organised alongside the road inauguration to encourage sportsmanship and youth engagement.
