Niglok Gram Panchayat aims for model “Clean & Green Village” status under LSDG initiative

Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Minister Ojing Tasing laid the foundation stone for new community assets at Niglok Gram Panchayat under the Ruksin sub-division, launching the “Clean and Green Panchayat” initiative under the Localized Sustainable Development Goals (LSDG) scheme. The project is funded through the 3% LSDG component of the state-owned resource (SOR) grant for FY 2024-25.

The initiative aims to transform Niglok into a model “Clean & Green Village” through community-driven efforts focused on cleanliness, hygiene, eco-friendly practices, and plantation drives. Speaking at the event, Minister Tasing emphasized the importance of community participation, urging villagers to make cleanliness and environmental sustainability a way of life. “This initiative will not only enhance the quality of life but also create livelihood opportunities and boost rural tourism in Niglok and surrounding areas,” he said.

Local MLA Ninong Ering and Pasighat MLA Tapi Darang also stressed the community’s role in achieving the village’s clean and green vision. East Siang Deputy Commissioner Tayi Taggu, ZPC Olen Rome, and ZPM Aruni Jamoh echoed these sentiments, highlighting the initiative’s long-term benefits. Director (Panchayat Raj) Tajing Jonnom, who has adopted Niglok Gram Panchayat, outlined the goals of the initiative and its alignment with the broader Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for 2030. The state has adopted seven villages under the LSDG scheme, with more to be added annually in a phased manner.
