Pasighat Municipal Elections See 21 Candidates Contesting as Campaigning Peaks

In the upcoming municipal elections for the Pasighat Municipal Council (PMC), twenty-one candidates are vying for seats across eight wards. Analysts predict a direct contest primarily between the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the People’s Party of Arunachal (PPA) in four of these wards, with a total of eight candidates from both parties. The Indian National Congress (INC) has three candidates, while two independent candidates are also in the fray. Notably, former PMC chairman Okiam Moyong Borang is re-contesting from Ward 2, reserved for women, where he faces PPA candidate Mem Tamut. Political experts anticipate triangular contests in Wards 1, 5, and 6, while Ward 8 is expected to see competition among all four candidates: BJP, PPA, INC, and the independents. The municipal election authority has established 12 polling stations for the elections, with 12,373 registered voters (6,182 males and 6,191 females) eligible to vote on December 15. As the polling day approaches, political parties and independent candidates are ramping up their campaigns to attract urban voters.
