Pema Khandu Flags Off Tawangchu Tides Kayaking C’ship, Vows Global Standards

Chief Minister Pema Khandu on Thursday inaugurated the second edition of the Tawangchu Tides International Kayaking Championship at the scenic Tawangchu river, welcoming over 100 participants from India and abroad. Terming the event a milestone for adventure sports in Arunachal Pradesh, Khandu assured that the championship would be elevated to international standards through corporate sponsorships and CSR partnerships. He also announced that the state government has officially included the event in the annual calendar of the youth affairs & sports department.
Highlighting the state’s natural advantage of mighty rivers, he informed that a proposal to develop five river basins as kayaking training hubs has been forwarded for consideration. He credited the state’s improved sporting performance—now ranked second in the Northeast at the 38th National Games—to sustained investment in youth and sports infrastructure.
Khandu said such events would boost tourism and local economic activity while inspiring young athletes to aim for national and international glory.
