The Indian squad for the tour of Zimbabwe was announced on Monday. The captain of the team is Shubman Gill. This is the first series for the Indian team after the end of the T20 World Cup. Five new faces are on the team. Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Jasprit Bumrah have been rested.
India has selected a team of 15. Shubman, who did not get a chance in the main team of the T20 World Cup, has been made the captain. Abhishek Sharma, Rian Parag, Nitish Reddy, Dhruv Jurel, and Tushar Deshpande were called up for the first time. Among them, Dhruv played test cricket but got a chance in the T20 team for the first time.
India will play only T20 matches on the tour of Zimbabwe. The five-match series starts on July 6. All matches are in Harare. India will play the second match the day after the first match, on July 6. The remaining three matches are on July 10, 13, and 14. Barring the July 10 match, all the remaining matches will start at 1 PM IST. The 10th match starts at 6 p.m.
There are four openers in the 15-man squad. Apart from Shubman, there is Yashwi Jaiswal, who is in the T20 World Cup squad. Ruturaj Gaikwad and Abhishek Sharma are also in the squad. The IPL-winning Kolkata Knight Riders’ only Rinku Singh has made it to the Indian team.
Ryan Tushar, who played well in the IPL, got a place in the Indian team for the first time. The two wicketkeepers in the team are Sanju Samson and Dhruv Jurel. Washington Sundar and Ravi Bishnoi will handle the spin department. Abesh Khan, Khalil Ahmed, Mukesh Kumar, and Tushar are in charge of the pace department.
