Siluk village of Arunachal makes it to NCERT textbook, becomes national model for clean living

Siluk, a serene and scenic village located in the Mebo subdivision of East Siang district in Arunachal Pradesh, has earned rare national recognition by being featured in a Class III Environmental Studies (EVS) textbook published by the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT). This momentous achievement has placed Siluk on the national map as a model village known for its outstanding waste management and environmental practices.

The village has been included under Chapter 12 of the EVS textbook, and its mention is seen as a proud moment for not just the residents of Siluk but for all of Arunachal Pradesh. The NCERT feature is expected to be read by lakhs of children across the country, thereby inspiring young minds with the story of Siluk’s cleanliness and community-driven eco-consciousness.

In response to this recognition, Arunachal Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) President Bosiram Siram issued a heartfelt congratulatory message to the people of Siluk. “Whole India is going to know Siluk Village,” Siram stated in a press release on Monday. He described the recognition as a symbol of the village’s dedication to collective progress and a cleaner environment.

Over the years, Siluk has consistently won accolades and titles for being the “Cleanest Village” in the region. The success story of Siluk is deeply rooted in its community’s proactive spirit, where local youth, women’s groups, and elders have come together under the banner of the Swachh Siluk Abhiyan to transform their village into a beacon of cleanliness and sustainability.
