On Sunday afternoon, the Arunachal Pradesh Police conducted an operation that resulted in the seizure of approximately 11 grams of suspected heroin and the arrest of two alleged drug peddlers near the Banderdewa market area. This action was prompted by intelligence regarding a suspected cross-border drug supply route from Assam. The operation was led by Inspector Kipa Hamak, Officer-in-Charge of Banderdewa Police Station, alongside his team, which included Sub-Inspector Koj Tada, Head Constable T. Bomdom, and Constable R. Tsering, under the supervision of Rishi Longdo, SDPO Naharlagun.
The police set up a trap at Niya Colony in Banderdewa and intercepted a motorcycle (Bajaj Pulsar AS-07W-0148) transporting contraband. The suspects, identified as Shivaji Morang (28) and Sarat Kutum (30), both from Bolugaguri in the Lakhimpur district of Assam, were apprehended during this operation. A search of Morang’s possession revealed a blue soap case containing the suspected heroin, weighing 10.95 grams.
Subsequently, a case was registered at the Banderdewa Police Station under Sections 21(b) and 29 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. The accused have been arrested in connection with this case, and law enforcement officials are continuing their investigation to uncover the supply chain and any potential connections to a broader narcotics network operating across the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border.
