Sussex head coach Paul Farbrace declared that Dan has shined in his role as Cheteshwar and is glad to get him back

Cheteshwar Pujara, an India Test specialist, will not return to Sussex for next year’s County Championship due to the decision to retain Australian Daniel Hughes. Hughes will be available for all Championship and T20 Vitality Blast matches. West Indies right-arm fast bowler Jayden Sales will play the first block of championship fixtures. Pujara returned to Sussex for the third time in 2024.

Sussex head coach Paul Farbrace announced that Dan has excelled in his role as Cheteshwar and is delighted to have him back for the entire next season.

Hughes was the top scorer in the group stages of this year’s Blast, completing 560 runs with an average of 43.07, including five fifties and a highest score of 96 not out.

The Australian player played a crucial role in helping Sussex secure a quarter-final against Lancashire Lightning on September 4.

He will also be a part of Sussex’s final five Championship games this season.

Dan has been a valuable asset to the team, providing valuable experience and assisting young batters in their game development, according to Fabrace.
