The Special Investigation Team (SIT) is actively searching for former Itanagar Capital Region (ICR) Deputy Commissioner Talo Potom, who is currently absconding. SIT Superintendent of Police Shivendu Bhushan indicated that while it is early to provide detailed information on the investigation’s progress, all investigative angles are being explored, and search operations are in effect.
On January 23, the Gauhati High Court’s Itanagar Permanent Bench annulled Potom’s previous bail, which had been granted on November 4 following a 14-day judicial custody that began on October 27. Potom, prior to his arrest, was serving as Special Secretary (PWD) in New Delhi after his transfer from ICR.
His arrest is connected to the suicide of 19-year-old Gomchu Yekar in Lekhi village on October 23, 2025, who named Potom and now-deceased engineer Likwang Lowang in a suicide note. He faces charges of abetment to suicide under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and the investigation remains ongoing.
