The Bakin Pertin General Hospital (BPGH) in Pasighat, East Siang district, has successfully performed its first-ever AV fistula surgery for a patient with chronic kidney failure, marking a significant advancement in healthcare access in eastern Arunachal Pradesh. This achievement relieves patients of the inconvenience of having to travel great distances for such surgeries to cities like Dibrugarh, Guwahati, or Naharlagun. Renowned surgeon and urologist Dr. Kapang Yirang carried out the procedure.
“We are now ready to perform the procedure right here in Pasighat,” said Dr. Darang. Yachit Samiyor is a patient from Manigong in the rural Shi-Yomi district, which borders Tibet. A number of clinics, including TRIHMS in Naharlagun, HEEMA Hospital in Itanagar, and Dibrugarh, have previously treated him without success. After considering the issue, Dr. Yirang stated that during a recent visit to TRIHMS, he suggested that the patient see BPGH Pasighat. She had been in pain for a while and had made numerous trips to get help. He said with obvious delight, “I led her here because I knew the necessary surgical equipment was available at BPGH, and the procedure went smoothly.”
