The Itanagar Police have arrested Nazir Ahmad Malik and Sabir Ahmed Mir, two individuals from Kupwara, Jammu & Kashmir, on charges of espionage for Pakistani handlers. They were apprehended on November 21 following credible information regarding their activities. Nazir was the first to be caught in Ganga village, leading to Sabir’s arrest later the same day from Abotani Colony. The pair is accused of transmitting sensitive data regarding Army movements and military installations in Arunachal Pradesh via a Telegram channel, disguised as local clothing vendors.
Their activities included visits to sensitive areas such as Kibitho, Anini, and Tezu, where they allegedly gathered crucial information. During interrogations, Nazir claimed that Sabir had enlisted him for spying in return for monetary compensation, stating that they maintained constant communication while collecting various forms of intelligence, including photographs and videos of strategic sites.
