Two live bombs defused near IAF firing range in Arunachal’s Kamle, security tightened

Two live bombs discovered near the Indian Air Force’s Dolum Firing Range in Kamle district of Arunachal Pradesh were safely neutralised on Thursday, bringing a major sigh of relief to residents and ensuring the safety of the region. The unexploded ordnance, believed to be remnants from a military exercise, were first spotted on May 26 in Rigyu village, which falls under the Dollungmukh administrative circle and lies just a few kilometres from the IAF’s firing zone. Though no detonation occurred at the time of discovery, the presence of live explosives posed a serious risk to both villagers and passersby.

Following standard protocol, local authorities quickly cordoned off the surrounding area. Access was restricted to ensure that no civilians came into contact with the highly dangerous devices. The area remained under continuous observation as arrangements were made for the disposal operation. On July 3, a specialised bomb disposal unit of the Indian Air Force arrived at the location to neutralise the threat. The operation began at 10:30 a.m. and concluded by 12 noon, during which the bombs were safely defused through a controlled detonation procedure.

The entire operation was supervised by Nabam Tarang, the Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO) of Dollungmukh, who coordinated with both the Indian Air Force and local police. The Dollungmukh Police extended full logistical support, maintaining tight security and ensuring that all safety measures were in place before, during, and after the disposal process. Speaking to local media, SDO Tarang praised the professionalism of the IAF team and the seamless cooperation between civil and military authorities. “The quick response and technical expertise of the IAF ensured that the bombs were rendered harmless without any harm to life or property,” he said. “This operation underscores the importance of continuous vigilance and coordination between different arms of government in safeguarding public security.”
