Will Paytm Stop Working From August 31, 2025?

Paytm on Friday clarified that a recent Google Play notification about changes to its UPI handles was incomplete and caused unnecessary confusion among users. The fintech firm, led by Vijay Shekhar Sharma, assured that there will be no disruption in UPI payments on Paytm, and both consumer and merchant transactions will continue seamlessly. The update only affects recurring payments such as subscription billing.

Paytm explained that users paying for services like YouTube Premium or Google One through Paytm UPI need to update their old @paytm handles to new bank-linked handles such as @pthdfc, @ptaxis, @ptyes, or @ptsbi. For instance, a UPI ID like rajesh@paytm will now change to rajesh@pthdfc or rajesh@ptsbi, depending on the linked bank. One-time UPI payments are unaffected and will proceed as usual.

This transition follows Paytm’s approval from the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) to operate as a Third Party Application Provider (TPAP). The company reassured users that this simple update ensures uninterrupted recurring payments, with all other UPI transactions unchanged.

The Google Play notification had caused panic by stating that @paytm handles would be deprecated after August 31, 2025. Users with recurring payments are advised to update their UPI IDs or switch to other payment methods.
