Arunachal Cultural Minister Urges Youth to Balance Heritage with Progress at RGU Event

In a vibrant call to action for the younger generation, Arunachal Pradesh Cultural Affairs Minister Dasanglu Pul has hailed the state’s youth as the essential bridge between ancient heritage and modern progress. Speaking at the “Somnath Samvaad—Youth Edition” held at Rajiv Gandhi University, the minister emphasized that the future of the state’s cultural legacy rests on the ability of young people to innovate without losing their roots. Addressing a gathering of students, faculty, and cultural leaders on Tuesday, Minister Dasanglu Pul described the youth as “torchbearers” who must navigate the delicate balance between tradition and innovation. The event, titled Somnath Swabhiman Parv 2026, was organized by the Department of Art and Culture in collaboration with Rajiv Gandhi University to foster a deeper engagement with India’s civilizational history.

The minister drew a powerful parallel between the spirit of the youth and the history of the Somnath Temple. She noted that despite centuries of invasions and destruction, the temple stands today as a global symbol of resilience and unity. She urged the students in attendance to draw inspiration from this history, encouraging them to maintain their “Swabhimaan”—or self-respect—by taking pride in their indigenous identity while contributing to the state’s development.

The seminar featured several prominent voices, including RGU Vice-Chancellor Professor S.K. Nayak and Keynote Speaker Professor Jayadeba Sahoo. Professor Sahoo’s address, titled “Atoot Astha Ki Gaurav Gaatha,” highlighted that the story of Somnath transcends religious or political boundaries, representing a universal quest for spiritual and cultural continuity. He reminded the audience that while physical structures may be attacked, the faith and integrity of a people can remain unshaken.

Art and Culture Secretary Mamata Riba also shared the objectives of the initiative, explaining that the symbol of the twelve Jyotirlingas represents values of peace and stability. She emphasized that the reconstruction of the Somnath Temple in 1951 was a defining moment for modern India, signaling a commitment to preserving national values despite historical adversities.

The event concluded with an award ceremony to celebrate the creativity of students who participated in various pre-event competitions. By providing a platform for dialogue and cultural expression, the Somnath Samvaad has set a precedent for how educational institutions can empower the next generation to become active custodians of their heritage. As Arunachal Pradesh looks toward a future of rapid modernization, the message from RGU is clear: the state’s progress is most meaningful when it is built upon the firm foundation of its unique cultural identity.
