By March 2027, the UP govt wants to have 8 lakh solar rooftop plants installed

Under the Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar Yojana, the Uttar Pradesh government, led by Yogi Adityanath, has set the lofty goal of putting eight lakh solar rooftop plants in place throughout the state by March 2027. 2.65 lakh units are the target for the current fiscal year, with a monthly goal of 22,000 installations, or about 300 installations per district on average. The state currently has over a million rooftop solar systems installed. Every month, around 11,000 units are installed, with an average of over 500 per day.

According to a government official, the program is being closely watched thanks to integration with the Chief Minister’s dashboard, which allows for real-time progress tracking. With the goal of bringing solar energy to every home, the Uttar Pradesh New and Renewable Energy Development Agency (UPNEDA) is leading the scheme’s implementation. Targets have been established at the district, DISCOM, municipal corporation, and municipality levels to guarantee methodical execution.

The listing of vendors is presently under progress, and the installation procedure is moving quickly, out of the 10.73 lakh applications that were submitted on the portal until March 2025. Approximately 1,800 suppliers had received formal training to support the launch, and over 2,500 merchants had been empaneled as of April 2025. Notably, the largest household rooftop solar program in the world is the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana. As of March 10, 2025, 10 lakh households have been solar-powered, marking a huge milestone.
