Capital Police bust interstate sex trafficking ring, rescue minors, arrest 15

The capital police have successfully dismantled an interstate sex trafficking operation, rescuing four minor girls and apprehending 15 individuals, including traffickers, pimps, and sexual assailants. SP Capital, Rohit Rajbir Singh, revealed to reporters that the rescue operation took place on May 4 in Chimpu, near the capital, where four minor girls aged 10 to 15, identified as A, B, C, and D from Dhemaji district, Assam, were rescued from the clutches of traffickers. The minors were discovered in an alleged brothel cum residence operated by Techi Ania and Jamlo Tagung in the Chimpu area. The girls were being smuggled from Assam by Pushpanjili Mili and Purnima Mili, two sisters involved in the trafficking network. All arrested suspects are currently in police custody, while the rescued minors have been relocated to a shelter home for medical and psychological care.

Shockingly, among the arrested individuals were Techi Ania, Puspa Mandal, and Laxmi Gorh, who were serving as peer educators in a voluntary health association based in Itanagar town. SP Singh informed that the matter has been reported to the Child Welfare Commission (CWC), and a case has been registered at the Women Police Station under relevant sections of the IPC, POCSO Act, and immoral trafficking act. Medical examinations revealed potential sexually transmitted diseases among the minors, prompting further tests to ascertain any other medical issues resulting from assaults.

In the course of investigation, the police also arrested eight customers implicated in the sexual assault on the minors, including government officials and individuals from various professions. The police have taken swift action, informing respective departments for necessary disciplinary actions against the government officials involved. Additionally, the owners of the hotels where the assaults occurred have been notified for appropriate measures, including the cancellation of trading licenses. Efforts to identify and apprehend other assailants are ongoing, with the SP acknowledging the diligent work of the police team across all ranks in rescuing the minors and apprehending the perpetrators.
