Arunachal Governor & NCW Chief Discuss Women’s Welfare and Empowerment

Governor K.T. Parnaik has highly lauded the women of Arunachal Pradesh for their active and transformative contributions to the state’s social, economic, and community life. During a high-level meeting at Lok Bhavan on Wednesday with Vijaya Rahatkar, Chairperson of the National Commission for Women (NCW), the Governor emphasized that the progress of Arunachal Pradesh is deeply intertwined with the empowerment of its women.

Governor Parnaik particularly highlighted the growing success of Women Self-Help Groups (SHGs) in rural areas, noting their pivotal role in promoting financial independence and uplifting local communities. He praised Arunachalee women for being the custodians of family values and cultural heritage, while also commending their leadership in critical social initiatives, including anti-drug campaigns, cleanliness drives, and health awareness programmes. Across diverse tribal communities, their resilience, dignity, and cultural wisdom remain central to maintaining community harmony.

The discussion also focused on the challenges concerning the welfare, safety, and advancement of women in the region. Stressing that greater female participation in education, entrepreneurship, and governance is essential for building a self-reliant state, the Governor welcomed the upcoming ‘Jan Sunvai – Rashtriya Mahila Aayog Aapke Dwaar’ programme.

Scheduled for May 29 in Itanagar, the initiative is being organized by the NCW in collaboration with the Arunachal Pradesh State Commission for Women, represented at the meeting by its Chairperson, Yalem Taga Burang. The Governor noted that such platforms are crucial for allowing women to voice their concerns, access support, and strengthen awareness about their fundamental rights.
