The annual three-day Lhamo Torchen ritual concluded at Tawang Monastery on Monday with the traditional burning of the Torgya ritual dough effigy, symbolising the destruction of negativity and the ushering in of peace, prosperity and spiritual well-being. The sacred ceremony, one of the most revered religious observances of the Monpa community, drew thousands of devotees and local dignitaries.
The concluding rituals were led by the monastery’s abbot, Phara Damey Tulku Rinpoche, along with senior monks. Devotees gathered to offer prayers for global peace, harmony and the long life and good health of the 14th Dalai Lama, reflecting the deep spiritual significance of the annual observance.
Held from July 11 to 13, the Lhamo Torchen ritual featured special prayers dedicated to the well-being of all sentient beings. Worshippers also invoked Palden Lhamo, the principal Dharma Protector, seeking protection from diseases, natural disasters and other adversities. The symbolic burning of the Torgya effigy marked the culmination of the ceremony, representing the triumph of positive forces over negativity.
The annual ritual continues to play an important role in preserving the rich Buddhist traditions and cultural heritage of the Monpa community, while reinforcing the values of compassion, unity and spiritual harmony among devotees.
